History
At Henham and Ugley Primary School we use Grammarsaurus as a scheme of learning.
What is History?
History is the study of the past. It helps us to make sense of the world today, drawing on skills to find evidence of how and why people lived as they did.
Subject Intent- History
At Henham we value learning and about and learning through history. We aim for all of our children to be able to describe, explain and imagine the past through the search, examination and interpretation of evidence. We believe the history excites children’s curiosity, so link it as much as possible to other subjects and our local area to promote a depth of learning and ‘hands on’ history.
By the time children leave our school, they will have built up their knowledge of Britain’s past and the Wider World. They will ask perceptive questions and understand types of evidence, as well as how to weigh this evidence for bias.
Progression of Skills
At Henham and Ugley, our learning builds up over time, as demonstrated by the progression map below.
Assessment
Children are assessed termly using teacher’s professional judgement and by work evidenced in lessons, against the criteria from the National Curriculum.
